Under the leadership of Coach Brenda Frese, who is beginning her seventh season at Maryland, the University of Maryland Women's Basketball team went 33-4 last season, advancing to the NCAA Elite Eight for the second time in three years, including a National Championship in 2006.

The Challenge

To have the most innovative website in the NCAA that showcases the UMD Women's Basketball program while conveying the unique approach that Coach Frese brings to the team. In addition, the Maryland Women's Basketball program needed a presence that would attract new recruits, gain national attention, and increase ticket sales.

The Solution

BrowserMedia worked closely with the UMD staff to develop a website that breaks the mold of traditional athletic team sites. BrowserMedia's creative team worked to develop a design and architecture that sets the them apart from their peers and fits comfortably alongside top athletic apparel brands, integrating a new twist on the cover flow interface in the process. The new website features interactive Flash video, dynamic player profiles, a virtual tour of the Comcast Center, personalized messages for the fans, and other interactive media and content. Recognizing that the target audience for the site includes younger, Internet-savvy users, the site is loaded with videos and offers integrated sharing links with Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.

The Results

The final product is a website that accurately reflects UMD's high level of professionalism and play. The Washington Post took note of the innovative approach and published an article on the site entitled "Lady Terps Are An Internet Presence." Coach Brenda Frese said of BrowserMedia, "We are very thankful and fortunate to have had such a great team to execute on such an exciting project with us. BrowserMedia was able to take our ideas and vision, transforming our brand into an interactive and impactful presence on the web. We look forward to continuing to work with BrowserMedia as they continue to help us evolve and further develop the future phases we have planned for the site."
