The American Traffic Safety Services Association is an international trade association located in Fredericksburg, Virginia that represents companies and individuals in the traffic control and roadway safety industry. Its 1,600 members provide the majority of roadway safety features, services and materials on the roadways in this country. ATSSA's mission stands to educate, train, advocate and advance the people and the technologies of the industry and of the government.

ATSSA's previous system was functional - save for the fact that all updates and (even font) changes had to be outsourced to a technology specialist. Frustrated by the high costs and wasted time and energy associated with out-of-house maintenance, ATSSA decided it was time to look for a solution where all changes could be managed internally, using existing staff without in-depth technological knowledge. As a Washington area-based lobby group, ATSSA needed a design that would recognize its status in the region but not exclude members across the country.

BrowserMedia worked with ATSSA to set up BrowserCMS and custom modules to improve the quality and functionality of the website. Development of HTML email and meeting templates increased not only communication between members, but attendance at upcoming meetings and events. The site features an online store, conference registration, custom events registration, multiple customizable sub-calendars, a password protected 'members only' section and a features forum where interested members can post messages and discuss issues in a collaborative environment. A new vendor database and search function allows site visitors to locate vendors based on a mileage radius and cuts back on time spent searching varied Internet search engines.
BrowserCMS provided flexible templates to give ATSSA a variety of page layouts that are consistent with ATSSA's new brand. The CMS also allowed ATSSA to upload various images detailing the variety of services that the organization provides. The ATSSA website now portrays a more colorful and dynamic image, that solidifies their place of leadership in the industry.

Where ATSSA had been plagued by upkeep and development problems, the organization now experiences easy, do-it-yourself website maintenance kept in-house. Members have a myriad of ways they can interact with the site, and use it to learn, inform and keep in touch with each other. A bold site design with a color scheme that draws the eye to images of roadways and servicing crews reinforces ATSSA's mission and has led to an increase in new memberships. What began as changes in online information management has burgeoned into an interactive web community. For an organization that pledges "safer roads save lives" the site can now further ATSSA's mission to promote traffic and roadway safety as a forum and source to keep users involved in the industry.
