American Society of Plastic Surgeons
Overview
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is the world's largest and most influential plastic surgery association representing more than 5,000 board-certified member surgeons who perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. ASPS's mission is to advance quality care to plastic surgery patients by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice and plastic surgery research. The Challenge
In order to expand on the success of the organization, ASPS wanted to use their website to increase referrals to their members. However, they were unsure of how to accomplish this in-house and turned to BrowserMedia for evaluation and consultation. Logos
The Solution
BrowserMedia Technology Consultants developed and posted a user survey on the ASPS site and studied web logs to gauge user satisfaction. Consultants spent weeks poring over data, researching competitor websites, and evaluating online marketing initiatives. They delivered a comprehensive report to the ASPS Board of Director's that analyzed the current state of their Web presence and made detailed technology, marketing, and functionality recommendations.

Impressed with BrowserMedia's evaluation, the ASPS subsequently contracted them to work side-by-side with their in-house development team to implement the solution.

BrowserMedia designed and developed the ASPS website from the ground up, employing a sophisticated navigation architecture that logically organizes thousands of pages of content. BrowserMedia developed a "Find a Surgeon" search engine to connect prospective customers with qualified ASPS member surgeons. A Java photo gallery application was created that enables surgeons to upload "before & after" pictures and procedure descriptions through a formatted page. With this system, the ASPS can also create "master" galleries for end-users who wish to quickly peruse the work of ASPS member surgeons. In addition, BrowserMedia successfully integrated the Java functionality with CommonSpot, a ColdFusion content management system.

Results
Users of the site can now easily search and navigate, whether they have a specific surgeon in mind or are just looking for credentials and previous work. The fluidity of the system has improved the site's quality and user satisfaction overall, as the site functions to both serve and inform ASPS members and clients. Since the redesigned ASPS site launched, users have reported satisfaction with not only the ease with which they can browse the site, but also with the surgeons they choose to work with. ASPS Member surgeons have reported an increase in referrals and hired work that they attribute to the new site.

Most impressively, the pioneering union between ColdFusion and Java technology resulted in MacroMedia's request for BrowserMedia to submit a white paper on the subject that was later published on their Developer's Network.

ASPS was also impressed with the innovative work on the site. "BrowserMedia consultants provided our web development team with an exhaustive report that analyzed our competition and made innovative recommendations geared at increasing our site's visibility to the public and value to our members," said John Everson, Publications Director.
