Redesign, Content Management System
PTA comprises millions of families, students, teachers, administrators, and business and community leaders devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of parent involvement in schools. PTA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that prides itself on being a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education. Membership in PTA is open to anyone who wants to be involved and make a difference for the education, health, and welfare of children and youth.
A strategic assessment of the existing PTA website determined that while the site was serving local, state, and national PTA leadership needs, parents' needs were not being met. In addition, the look and feel of the site was outdated and inconsistent with current branding. Also, over time the homepage of the site had accumulated far too much content for the existing information architecture.
BrowserMedia developed the information architecture and design for the new PTA website with the goal of repositioning the site to address all of PTA's core audiences. The resulting website serves the PTA's mission by providing a powerful voice for children and the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students. BrowserMedia worked in collaboration with RiverPoint Group LLC, a consulting firm, to build the site using the RedDot web content management system. In advance of the launch of the revised website, BrowserMedia developed an interactive Flash presentation for the PTA's annual convention. The presentation was designed to give the membership of PTA a preview of the new design, architecture, and focus of the PTA website. By all accounts, it was a success. Prior to designing the main PTA website, BrowserMedia developed an interactive micro-site for the PTA's nationally recognized Reflections awards program, featuring the best works in photography, literature, dance, musical composition, film/video, and visual arts from thousands of school-age participants nationwide. To provide a platform for judges to review the finalists' submissions, BrowserMedia developed a secured site for judges' access only.
The redesigned national website gives the PTA a fresh new image that is much more appealing to parents and approachable among a variety of audiences. The new information architecture addresses all of the PTA's core audiences and is integrated seamlessly with the PTA's web content management system. BrowserMedia continues to offer web design services to PTA, extending the work from the national website into others areas such as the organization's Leadership Training department and the signature arts program, Reflections.
